Our 70% Belize dark chocolate begins in the lush hills of southern Belize with the farmers of Maya Mountain Cacao, the same partners we trusted for the very first bag of beans we brought into our test kitchen back in 2013. Before we had awards, before we had a storefront, we had these beans, and a belief that chocolate could taste better.
In 2019, that belief took us back to the source. Ben, one of our chocolate makers and the son of our founders, spent a week in Belize walking the farms, cracking open fresh cacao pods, and stirring fermenting beans alongside the people who grow them. It’s one thing to make chocolate. It’s another to know it at its roots.
That same year, this bar earned a Good Food Award, a nod to what happens when great ingredients and real relationships come together.
So what does it taste like?
Think bright citrus and ripe red berries up front, mellowing into a soft nuttiness and a clean, lingering cocoa finish. It’s layered, balanced, and just bold enough to keep you coming back for one more square.
This is chocolate with a story you can taste, from the Maya farmers who grow it, to the hands that craft it, to the moment you let it melt.

70% Belize Dark Chocolate Bar comes from a U.S. craft chocolate maker based in the Cincinnati area. Its bean-to-bar operation now produces chocolate in Covington, Kentucky, using cacao from selected growing regions around the world. This is an important distinction: the finished chocolate is made in the United States, while imported cacao is part of the ingredient supply. Learn about the factory process and cacao sourcing.
This dark chocolate bar invites a comparison of cocoa character, sweetness, texture and the ingredients named in the maker’s description. Try a small piece on its own first, then compare it with a different cacao percentage or another flavor style.
For gifting, a single bar is an approachable way to sample a distinctive style before selecting a larger chocolate assortment. For a tasting board, place it beside a contrasting milk or dark selection and offer plain water between bites. Keep the bar away from direct sunlight and high heat during storage and transport. Read the original description for specific ingredients and any recommended uses; a product title alone does not establish nutrition, allergen suitability, net weight, or caffeine content.
Compare craft chocolate bars, Candy & Sweets, and the full Food & Pantry selection when shopping for your preferred flavor, texture, or gift. For the maker's recipe-specific claims and the current product assortment, consult its original description and official pages.
Please use the current label and variant options to verify ingredient lists, allergens, quantity, cacao percentage, serving size, shelf life, and preparation details, particularly for mixed-ingredient products. Do not treat an individual marketing phrase as a substitute for the package's dietary information. Confirm delivery availability and shipping charges at checkout. Food returns and exchanges can be limited; review buyamerican.mom's return policy and the maker's refund and exchange guidance for details.
