For Veteran Memorial, Funeral and Display Use

A 5' x 9.5' American flag is commonly associated with Veteran funeral and memorial presentation. After ceremonial use, a folded flag can be preserved as a family keepsake in a properly sized triangular flag case or military shadow box.

If you are arranging services for an eligible Veteran or Reservist, first review the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs burial flag benefit. The VA may provide one United States burial flag at no cost to eligible families. This retail product is a separately purchased memorial flag and is not presented as a VA-issued benefit flag.

Choosing a Display Case for a 5' x 9.5' Flag

Choose a display case according to the flag’s original unfolded size, not simply the appearance of the folded triangle. A case made for a 3' x 5' display flag is significantly smaller and should not be assumed to fit a full-size 5' x 9.5' flag.

See our burial flag display case sizing guide for help comparing 3' x 5' and 5' x 9.5' flags, or shop flag display cases for burial and memorial flags.

Cotton Construction and Flag Care

Cotton provides a traditional appearance and substantial feel that is well suited to ceremonial, memorial and indoor display. To protect a memorial flag after use, keep it clean and dry and avoid extended exposure to weather, direct moisture and conditions that could fade or damage the fabric.

The Department of Veterans Affairs likewise recommends protecting burial flags from extended weather exposure and handling them carefully to avoid damage.
